Nila came to us from PA in July 2017 after she was abandoned by her owners when they moved away and left her behind to fend for herself; tied out in a junk-filled yard. Luckily, the neighbor took pity on her and made sure that she had food, water, and walks, and went to work finding a rescue to take Nila in.
Nila is a great girl and is very sweet once she gets to know you! Once she is comfortable, her personality really starts to show through - she may have those sad puppy-dog eyes, but don't let that fool you... she can get into her share of shenanigans!
Nila needs a family that is going to be patient with her and allow her space while she adjusts to yet another "new life". Sadly, there are certain things from her past life and abandonment that have left her with some lasting affects; we believe that once she is settled in a new home where the focus is primarily on her, she will really begin to succeed and open up.
Nila does take time to warm up to new people; she prefers to be allowed to interact with people at her own pace and not have attention forced on her. She is currently in a foster home with other dogs; unfortunately it stresses her out a lot and she would thrive much better as an only dog. She does live with cats as well, but it's hit or miss as to whether they're going to be friends or food on any given day. There are also dog-savvy children in the home that she does well with, however due to the fact that she can be nervous upon meeting new people, we recommend a home with children over 16 years. Nila does require a fenced-in yard; while she loves being outside, it can sometimes be a stressor and she will pace along the fence line. Even with regular feedings, occasionally she will go into survival mode and scavenge for food.

*NOTE ABOUT BREED LABELING: Visual breed identification of dogs is unreliable and generally inaccurate. For most of our adoptable dogs, we are only taking a guess at predominant breed or breed mixture. We focus on getting to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
